What is ELD in trucking and how can we help you to be compliant? STEF Logistics offers 24/7 support & enables support in terms of all FMCSA rules & regulations.

What is an ELD in trucking?
ELD in trucking is short for an Electronic Logging Device. It is congressionally mandated as part of the MAP-21 and requires each short-haul or long-haul driver to possess one in the truck. It was introduced in February 2016 by the FMCSA and has by now become a trucking standard in the industry. Yet, many people that are new to the game are still having trouble adapting to it.
What ELD does for the driver is to create a safer environment for them while making it easier and faster to accurately track, share, and manage their RODS data. But what our ELD operators can do for you is to help you improve your safety score and monitor the driver or an entire fleet to ensure compliance with the HOS rules.
You can rest assured that our team is there for you at all times. With STEF Logistics and our ELD trucking services, you will get full 24/7 support from our operators and will be able to establish direct communication at all times. We also provide you with the necessary backup in terms of audits and inspections and can even recalibrate the logs, reverting them back to the necessary state, if a driver made any mistakes while on the road.
ELD Logs
The way an ELD in trucking works is that a device is plugged into the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics (OBD) port allowing it to pull data directly from the truck. ELD logs include whether the engine is on or off, how far it has traveled, and how much fuel it used to get there. It also has a built-in GPS tracker that determines the current location of your vehicle.
When it comes to ELD in trucking, it is used to record hours of service (HOS), meaning that you will be able to exactly determine the number of hours a driver has spent driving per day and basically how many hours they were on duty and off duty per week.
According to the ELD rules, all commercial drivers have to have one and need to be prepared to provide HOS records and their RODS status upon inspection. There is where we come in.
We will make sure that your logs are clean upon inspection. Some things that happen on the round cannot be predicted. Mistakes can happen and it is our duty to make sure you are compliant during audits. Our ELD managers will provide you with the necessary backup and see to it that all the FMCSA rules are in check and allow you to solely concentrate on the road and driving the freight.
STEF Logistics ELD operators are available for you at any time 24/7. It does not matter if it’s the weekend or the middle of the night, we are here to provide you with everything that you need.
